Padrón peppers are small, green Spanish chilli peppers, typically about 5 cm (2 in) long with a slightly wrinkled, elongated shape. They’re most often harvested while still unripe and green, giving them a mild, slightly grassy flavour with a hint of nuttiness when cooked.
Their charm lies in the “pepper lottery” — while most are mild, a few can surprise you with noticeable heat. On the Scoville scale, they range from 500 to 2,500 SHU, meaning most are about as mild as a banana pepper, but the hotter ones can approach the lower end of a jalapeño’s heat.
They’re traditionally pan-fried in olive oil and sprinkled with coarse sea salt, making them a popular Spanish tapas dish.

The Orange Cayenne is a vibrant variety of Capsicum annuum known for its glossy, bright orange pods when fully ripe. The fruits are typically slender and pendant-shaped, with a slightly more rounded base compared to the classic red cayenne.
In terms of flavour and heat, it offers a pungent, sharp spiciness similar to red cayenne peppers, but with a slightly fruitier undertone. On the Scoville scale, it averages around 35,000 SHU (Scoville Heat Units), placing it in the medium-to-hot range — enough to deliver a noticeable kick without overwhelming most chili lovers.
These peppers are often used fresh, dried, or powdered, adding both colour and heat to dishes, and they also make striking ornamental plants in the garden.

A poblano pepper is a large, heart-shaped chilli originating from Mexico, known for its mild heat and rich, earthy flavour with subtle sweetness. They typically measure 4–5 inches long and 2–3 inches wide, with thick, dark green skin that turns red or brown as it ripens.
On the Scoville Heat Scale, poblanos range from 1,000 to 2,000 SHU, making them much milder than jalapeños (2,500–8,000 SHU). When dried, they become ancho chillies, which have a deeper, slightly smoky taste and are often used in sauces, stews, and mole.
